Independent MLA Golma Devi today staged a dharna outside the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly building here demanding action against those involved in custodial death of a man in Bharatpur district.

Golma, in a representation, also demanded a CBI inquiry in the matter, government service for the son of the deceased Kishore Jogi, protection and compensation to his family.

The MLA alleged that Jogi, who hailed from his constituency Mahua in Dausa district, was living in BharaTpur and was murdered by policemen in connivance with a local political leader in Halena police station earlier.

In the Legislative Assembly, CPI(M) MLA Amra Ram raised the issue of the custodial death and sought a reply from the government following which MoS Home Virendra Beniwal informed the House during Zero Hour that the man allegedly committed suicide in the police station on March 12 where he had requested to stay.

He said that the matter was under investigation but postmortem of the body could not be done because of non-cooperation from his family members.

Jogi had filed an FIR against some locals for allegedly stealing his tractor.

Later, Jogi and the accused were called at the police station for a settlement but the former was beaten to death when he refused to compromise with them.

After the incident of the custodial death came to light, the entire police station staff, including the then SHO were removed and shunted to police lines.

After the protest of the family members of the deceased, an FIR against Ajay Singh, who is Dausa Zila 'Pramukh', three policemen and others was registered on March 18.
