Customers looking to buy JioPhone for Rs 501 under Reliance Jio's monsoon hungama exchange scheme rolled out today would need to shell out a total Rs 1,095 upfront as the device comes bundled with six monthly recharges of total Rs 594, according to terms and conditions announced by the firm.

Reliance Jio which is looking to scale up JioPhone users by four fold from 25 million to 100 million offers the device against refundable deposit of Rs 501 to be paid upfront.

Customers opting for the scheme get the device by exchanging feature phone along with battery and charger in working condition of any brand.

"Under the monsoon hungama exchange offer JioPhone will now be available at effectively Rs 501. Additionally,Rs 501 is also a 100 per cent refundable security deposit at the end of 3 years, thereby making the JioPhone effectively free. The refund is subject to the same terms and conditions as earlier," a Jio note said.

Besides, the JioPhone will come bundled with six recharges unlimited calling and data service each costing Rs 99 with 28 days validity for which customers will need to pay additional Rs 594.

"We realized that there are some users who may want lesser data and therefore must get the plan at a lower price. Hence we are introducing Rs 99 with unlimited free voice, 0.5GB data per day and 300 SMS for 28 days. This will reduce the monthly spends straightaway by nearly 50 per cent, an RJio spokesperson said.

The company rolled out the scheme across country today

RJio is attempting to imitate the scheme with same name that RIL's previous telecom arm Reliance Infocomm (now Reliance Communications) had launched in 2003 under which it offered mobile phones for Rs 501.
