Customs officials seize 8 kg of gold from passengers

Customs officials today seized eight kg of gold worth more than Rs two crore from air passengers who were trying to smuggle the precious metal, airport sources said.

Customs officials at Chennai airport seized three kg gold worth Rs one crore from a 55-year old woman.

The woman who arrived from Kuala Lumpur was found to have concealed the precious metal in her person, airport officials said.

The woman has been detained and investigation was on, they said.

In Tiruchirappalli, about five kg gold was seized from the baggages of a couple of passengers who arrived from Malaysia.

On a information, the officials inspected the baggages of passengers and seized the gold.
 

"Some passengers" were taken into custody for questioning, the sources said.
