Customs officials seize Wireless Communication Equipments

Customs officials have seized 40 wireless communication equipments valued at Rs six lakh from two passengers who arrived by a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo.

The seizure-- FM trans receivers was made by the officials yesterday from Saik Thawood and Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed Abdulla, hailing from Tamil Nadu while they were trying to walk through the green channel with their check in and hand baggage.

The equipment is normally used in fishing trawlers and by the operators of call taxies.

The import of this item in commercial quantity in the guise of personal baggage is not permissible, the release stated.
 

On questioning and verification of their travel documents, it has been found that they have frequently travelled to Singapore.

It is also found that one of them has brought similar goods on earlier occasion through this Airport in August last year.
