Customs officials today seized 500 grams of gold worth Rs 16 lakh from a passenger at international airport here when he was allegedly trying to smuggle in the precious metal.
The flyer, who landed from a Sharjah flight, was intercepted by the officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit while he was walking through the Green Channel, a senior Customs official said.
"During checking, the Customs officials found a pouch on the upper part of the body of the passenger in which he had concealed two gold bars weighing 250 grams each," the official told PTI adding they have seized the gold.
The passenger was not arrested as the value of seized gold was less than Rs 20 lakh. Probe is on.
