Cuttack liquor shop owner dies in firing

A foreign liquor shop owner was shot dead by unidentified persons at Brahmanjharilo market here, a police officer said today.

Binod Behary Das (30) was fired at from close range while he was manning his shop counter by a customer yesterday. Two enraged customers had apparently picked up a quarrel with Binod demanding free liquor, the officer said.

"Binod had received three gunshot injuries and he was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Cuttack city where he died while undergoing treatment", said Sadar police inspector Debadutta Kar.

The identity of the assailants is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched a manhunt to nab them after registering a murder case following a written complaint by the deceased's brother.
 

In another incident, one Prakash Behera alias Chakuli of Sheikh Bazar was attacked with swords and other sharp weapons by some unidentified persons at Bakhrabad under Lalbag police station here last evening, police said.

A profusely bleeding Chakuli was undergoing treatment in hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. Chakuli and two others were exonerated by a trial court here in May this year in a murder case of 2013.
