Two youths were today arrested in connection with the July 26 gangrape and loot case at Jhunkiria here, police said.

The duo, who hailed from Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district, would be produced in court tomorrow, Cuttack city deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said, adding they have some criminal cases pending against them in their native district.

He, however, refused to divulge any further details saying it would hamper investigation when asked how they came from a distance of over 100 km to commit the crime here.

At least four intruders allegedly raped a woman after looting her ornaments, cash and a mobile phone on July 26 midnight.

The woman was with her two minor children at the time of the incident as her husband was away from home attending an ailing relative in a hospital.
