Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar should supervise high profile corruption cases under CBI to ensure fair and transparent investigations, a group of eminent citizens said today.
After meeting the CVC, Prakash Singh, former BSF Director General who led the delegation, said, "We are very concerned with the probe in high-profile corruption cases with CBI and others.
"Our request was that the CVC should exercise its power to supervise CBI investigation so that all probes being undertaken by the agency are fair and transparent. Our concern is that no mighty or high profile individual who has indulged in corruption should be let out from the clutches of law."
CVC exercises superintendence over CBI in matter related to corruption.
Singh, who met CVC along with other members including former Comptroller and Auditor General V K Shunglu and former Chief of Air Staff S Krishnaswamy of NGO India Rejuvenation Initiative (IRI), said they got a patient hearing from the CVC.
"The CVC was courteous. He listened to us very patiently. Though, he has not given us any assurance or commitment," Singh said.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of a letter written to CBI Director Ranjit Sinha by Singh, on behalf of IRI, alleging tardy probe by the investigating agency in select high profile corruption cases including alleged disproportionate assets charges against BSP supremo Mayawati, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
CBI has decided to close investigation in alleged disproportionate assets case against Yadav.
The IRI had later complained to CVC on the matter. CVC has already sought CBI's response on the matter.
Meanwhile, in a letter to Singh, the CBI Director has rejected all allegations of adopting a selective approach in high profile corruption cases being probed by the agency.
