The Congress' top brass will go into a huddle here on November 7 when they would discuss, besides pressing political issues, the organisational polls, amid continuing uncertainty over Rahul Gandhi's elevation as party president.
The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's apex decision making body, will also chalk out its strategy for the winter session of Parliament beginning November 16.
The organisational elections in Congress are overdue and the party had sought time from the Election Commission to complete the process by December 31. The party had informed the poll panel about it as required under the rules.
The meeting is taking place at a time when the talk of Rahul Gandhi's elevation has got revived again following Congress president Sonia Gandhi illness. She had been taken ill suddenly during a road show in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi on August 2 and had to be hospitalised.
Several Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, have been quite vocal about seeking Rahul's elevation.
Ramesh had a few months back said Rahul was already "de facto" (in fact) Congress president and needed to take charge of the party by becoming its "de jure" (in law) leader without waiting for an anti-incumbency building up against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Making a strong pitch for Rahul Gandhi's appointment as Congress chief, Ramesh said, "Uncertainty does not help". He said the challenges faced by Congress were akin to those that prevailed when Sonia Gandhi had taken over the party in March 1998.
Rahul was appointed party vice president in January 2013 at CWC's meeting in Jaipur.
Besides the organisational polls and the strategy to be adopted for Parliament session, the meeting would also take stock of the current political situation and discuss its plans for assembly elections to some states including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab due next year, party sources said.
