CWG in mind, Sandhu and Sodhi to attend camp

Eyeing selection in the Indian shotgun team for the Commonwealth Games, Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Ronjan Sodhi will look to give final touches to their preparation at a coaching camp here ahead of the ISSF World Cup in Almaty, after which the team for CWG will be picked.

Sandhu, a gold medal winner at the World Cup in Tucson, USA last month, and Sodhi will be among the 14 shotgun shooters who will be attending the camp from May 7-18 at the Karni Singh Ranges.

Shagun Chowdhary and Shreyasi Singh, among others, will be attending the camp in the women's section.
 

The World Cup in Afghanistan will kick off on May 16 but the tournament proper will start following the usual two days of testing.

After the tournament in Almaty, the shooters will be selected on the basis of their average scores, which will be reached at after taking into account their last six performances.

Having won accolades for the country in many prestigious international events, both Sandhu and Sodhi will look to shoot well in the last event before the final selection for the quadrennial extravaganza in Glasgow.

The National Rifle Association will also hold camps for rifle, pistol and shotgun shooters for the World Cup in Munich in June.

The pistol and rifle camp will be held from May 20 to June 2, while the one for shotgun shooters will be held from May 26 to June 2.

Before that, a coaching camp will be organised from May 14 to May 24 for the shooters selected for the international junior competition in Suhl, Germany later this year.
