Government think tank Centre for WTO Studies (CWS) will assist the Commerce and Industries Ministry of Afghanistan in capacity building activities and and training capabilities.

The initiative will help Afghanistan build local capacity on trade policy so that the ministry are better placed to formulate trade policies, ultimately enhancing export competitiveness.

CWS and the Afghanistan's ministry have entered into a partnership for this exercise.

A key focus for CWS will be developing a training programme on trade policy formulation, negotiation and implementation issues over a two-year period to build capacity of core officers working for the ministry as well as other trade-related ministries and implementing agencies.

The programme will cover topics such as trade analysis, trade diplomacy, trade litigation and professional monitoring of compliance and effects of trade agreements, CWS said in a statement.

The exercise will also contribute to the efforts by the Afghanistan's ministry for establishing a Kabul-based trade and investment institute, ensuring the sustainability of the contribution made by the EU project.
