To generate awareness about women empowerment and security among youths of the country, a cycle rally was flagged off from Jammu and Kashmir today which will traverse through five states covering a distance of 1,100 kms.
The rally with the theme "Building Safe India for Women" was flagged off by Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir at Kashmir University here.
The rally, organised by Jamia Millia Islamia, will traverse through five states and culminate at New Delhi after covering a distance of about 1100 kms.

The IGP said that since women constitute 50 per cent of the population of the country, it is important to have their participation in each and every field of life.
"The programme of organising a cycle rally by Jamia Millia for women empowerment and building a safe India for women is a welcome gesture. What makes this rally special is good number of girls participating in the long rally from Srinagar to New Delhi," he said.
The rally will pass through the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh and will take 18 days to reach New Delhi.
