Cyclone: ECoR cancels, diverts train service for safety

In its bid to ensure safety of passengers, the railways has decided to cancel, short terminate and divert some trains in view of the very severe cyclonic storm likely to make landfall near Vishakhapatanam on Sunday.

The major trains which have been cancelled by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Saturday, Sunday and Monday included Bhubaneswar-Bangalore Prashanti Express, Bhubaneswar-Visakhpatnam Intercity, Bhubaneswar-Yesvantpur Express, Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad

Visakha Express, Puri-Okha Express, Bhubaneswar-Tirupaty Express, Puri-Tirupaty Express, Bhubaneswar-CSTM Konark Express, Puri-Chennai Express, Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada Ratnachalam, Visakhapatnam-Tirupaty Tirumala Express and Visakhapatnam-Nizamuddin Dakshin Link Express.

Others which have been cancelled included Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad Godawari Express, Visakhapatnam- Renigunta Special, Visakhapatnam-Tata Express, Visakhapatnam- Bhubaneswar Intercity Express, Vijayawada-Visakhpatnam Ratnachalam Express, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Janmabhoomi Express, Guntur-Visakhapatnam Express, Tirupaty-Visakhapatnam Tirumala Express, Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express, Junagarh Road-Bhubaneswar Express, Koraput-Rourkela Express, Visakhapatnam-Nizamuddin Samata Express, LTT-Visakhapatnam Express, Korba-Visakhapatnam Express and Durg-Jagdalpur Express, Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Express scheduled to leave from its originating stations on Sunday will be cancelled.
 

Similarly, CSTM-Bhubaneswar Konark Express, Tirupaty-Puri Express, Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Visakha Express, Bangalore-Bhubaneswar Prashanti Express, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Express, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Express, LTT-Visakhapatnam Express scheduled to leave from its originating stations from October 11 will remain cancelled, an official release said.

Nizamuddin-Visakhapatnam Express scheduled to leave Nizamuddin on 10.10.2014 and Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Express from Visakhapatnam on 13.10.2014 will also been cancelled.

ECoR has also taken steps for no risk to passengers, positioning of Special Teams for early restoration of tracks, signalling system and electrification.

Certain Diesel locomotives have been kept in position for utilisation during failure of electricity. Emergency Control Rooms have been opened Round the Clock and if necessary ECoR will use Satellite Phones during crisis.

As Red Alert has been given in coastal areas, ECoR is keeping a watchful eye at all the stations between Bhubaneswar & Visakhapatnam, the release said.
