DA case: Bank official gets 5-yr RI,slapped with Rs 1.5cr fine

A special CBI court today sentenced a senior official of a PSU bank to five-year rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 crore on him for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The special judge for CBI cases held Vasant Pavse, the then assistant manager at Arera Hill branch of Central Bank of India, guilty of amassing ill-gotten wealth to the tune of over Rs 1.70 crore.

The case was registered against Pavase on October 29, 2010 under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

After investigations, a charge sheet was filed against him in the Special Court for CBI cases.
 

Pavse will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment of additional 18 months if he failed to pay the fine.
