The police said dacoits strangulated and hung 52-year-old Tulsi Ghosh before looting Rs 2 lakh and ornaments from her house at Saratpally last night.
Her husband Sukumar Ghosh, who runs a confectioner's shop, found the house open and his wife's body hanging from the ceiling at about 11 pm last night.
Superintendent of Police Praveen Tripathi visited the spot today.
"Six persons who were working as masons in the house for a few days have been detained for interrogation," he said.
A four-member team of forensic experts also visited the house this afternoon.
