Armed dacoits today looted about Rs 88,000 from a regional bank in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, police said.

The incident took place at Odisha Gramya Bank's branch at Agaria village in Baisinga police station jurisdiction. The dacoits fled with the money after injuring bank manager Subodh Das, police said.

Four persons in two bikes arrived at the bank at around noon when there were 16 customers inside the branch. While locking the customers in a room, the dacoits hit the manager with the pistol before taking away Rs 88,000 from the cash counter.

Cashier Somnath Prusty and a group-D employee of the bank were also injured in the incident.

"Despite several suggestions, the Odisha Gramya Bank authorities did not put any security system in place," said Mayurbhanj SP Nikhil Kanodia adding that this was the second bank loot in the state district in a span of three months.

The dacoits had earlier on April 9 had looted Rs 10 lakh from Bank under Kuliana police station area.
