Dacoits murdered a woman in broad daylight and decamped with gold and other valuables from her house here this afternoon, police said.

The incident took place around 2 pm in Palakonda area of this district in Andhra Pradesh. The woman, Prameela (45), was alone in the house at the time of the crime, they said.

Her husband, Rajeswara Rao, a teacher by profession, had left for his workplace in the morning. Unidentified and armed men managed to gain entry in her house and bolted it from inside.

On seeing them, Prameela tried to raise an alarm. However, the assailants attacked her with sharp-edged weapons, seriously injuring her. The dacoits removed gold ornaments from her body and looted other valuables before fleeing, police said.

Her husband, on returning from work, found the doors open and his wife lying in a pool of blood. He informed the police, who pressed sniffer dogs into service to find clues.

The brutal broad daylight murder and dacoity has created a sense of fear among residents of the locality.
