Newspapers in Manipur today failed to hit the stands for second consecutive day because of threat to distributors by some "unwanted elements", sources in the media houses said.

There was a late night discussion between distributors and some "unwanted elements" but no agreement could be reached, they said.

A spokesman of the All Manipur Newspapers Sales and Distributors said if some unwanted elements wanted their stories to be published, they should hold talks with the editors concerned and not disturb the distributors of the dailies.

Sources said publication of dailies should not be disturbed by any persons as carrying a news items should be left in the hands of the editors concerned.

Meanwhile the state publicity department has urged the unwanted elements not to disturb the publication of papers in the state.
