Tension prevailed in the city after extremist Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa today put up 1984 riots-related posters bearing provocative texts at a busy square here, police said.

The posters triggered protests from Shiv Sena party workers, who attempted to remove them.

The police later intervened and tried to pacify the two sides. They also lodged FIRs against unknown people for acts intended to outrage religious feelings.

According to eyewitnesses, Dal Khalsa members and other Sikh outfit also raised pro-Khalistan slogans.

"After an argument between the two sides, the situation is under control now. We have lodged FIRs against unknown persons and situation is peaceful in the area," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Naresh Dogra said.
