The facility, first of its kind in the country, is able to do a complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopic procedures, like treatment of intestinal bleeds, GI polyps and cancers, stones and strictures.
The unit is specially equipped for early cancer detection, cancer staging and management, spokesperson of the hospital said.
"It has highly sophisticated video- and Spy-Glass cholangio-scopy with capability for treatment inside the bile and pancreatic ducts for conditions like large stones and cancers which required major surgery in the past," he said.
With the new mechanism, which has highly advanced wireless Capsule Endoscopy, doctors will now able to look inside the so far elusive small intestine, the spokesman said.
The hospital claimed, "this is one of the few centres in India which has capability of doing Capsule colonoscopy for screening of colon cancer."
This is one of the first endoscopy units in the country with strict endoscope, device reprocessing facility and protocols which make cross transmission of any infection from one patient to another impossible thus maintaining highest level of sterilisation.
