Four Dalits allegedly attempted suicide in front of district collector's office here demanding action against a former sarpanch who they claimed had grabbed government land, police said today.

Govind Sondarva (70) and his family members Rasik (25), his wife Usha (22) and Aluben (55) poured kerosene to set themselves ablaze, the police said, adding that policemen present there foiled the attempt and took them into custody.

Govind and his family were demanding action against Ramnik Sondarva, former sarpanch of Khatli town who had allegedly grabbed government land, the police said.

Earlier in the month, six members of a Nepalese family torched themselves at the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) central zone office fearing eviction from a 900 square yard plot where they had been residing for over three decades.
