A 38-year-old Dalit man was beaten to death at Bagh Piparia village in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh today, police said.

Pappu Singh Chauhan and Guddu Chauhan, who are now absconding, beat Munna Rajak, a Dalit, with sticks, killing him. They also beat up Rajak's wife Sushila (30) who tried to intervene, leaving her unconscious, Bareli police station inspector Manoj Singh told PTI.

Police rushed to the village after getting information about the incident and took Sushila to a hospital in Bareli. She was later taken to Bhopal for further treatment.

Police had deployed several personnel in the village as the local Dalits were furious over the incident, he said.

Rajak's daughter, a minor, had filed a complaint with police a few days ago that she was being teased by an upper caste man, related to Pappu and Guddu Chauhan.

Sub-divisional officer of police Anil Sharma visited the village and police have launched a search for Pappu and Guddu Chauhan who fled after the incident, district superintendent of police Dipak Verma said.
