The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council today referred to the Select Committee a bill that seeks to relax the provisions restricting SCs and STs to sell their land to non-Dalits.

The Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2015, was passed by the Assembly yesterday.

The Select Committee will submit its report within a month.

BSP and Congress members moved certain amendments in the bill that seeks to change the present law which says the DM cannot give permission if the area of the proposed land is less than 1.26 hectare or after selling a portion of the land the original land becomes less than 1.26 acre.

The House, however, passed Era University Bill, 2015, UP Indian Medicine (Amendment) Bill, 2015, and Indian Stamp (UP Amendment) Bill, 2015, by voice vote.
