Dalit Samiti stages protest

Activists of the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Karnataka Dalita Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) today staged a protest before the Deputy Commissioner's office here demanding stringent action against those who allegedly attacked members of the Koraga community in Kundapur taluk on April 24.

The protestors demanded that strict legal action should be initiated against the accused so that the attackers did not get bail.

They urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the victims of the attack and ensure protection to Koragas.

A group persons had allegedly barged into a house at Movadi in Hosadu village of Kundapur where an engagement ceremony was going on and harassed women in the house. They had allegedly abused and offended members of Koraga community who tried to prevent the attack.
 

The attackers had also threatened to set the houses of eight families on fire if a complaint was lodged with the police, speakers at the protest meeting said.

DSS district committee convenor Lakshman Vamanjoor and other office bearers led the protest.
