Villagers today blocked the Nalhati-Azimganj railway line in Birbhum district for around two hours to protest the alleged damage to a goddess Kali idol by miscreants in their village Lohapur.

In a complaint lodged at Nalhati police station, president of Lohapur Sarbajanin Puja Committee Kunal Bhakat alleged that last midnight, unknown miscreants damaged the idol.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.

The blockade was lifted after Rampurhat SDPO Kamal Bairagya intervened and promised the agitators that the guilty would be arrested soon.

Train movement was not affected much as it was a loop line.
