Six armed robbers allegedly raped a 19-year-old married woman after breaking into her house in Kachigam area here, police said today.

The victim lived with her husband in a rented room in the industrial area of Kachigam.

According to complaint lodged by the victim, the incident took place in the wee hours yesterday and the robbers decamped with Rs 400 in cash, some jewellery after raping her, Sohail Jivani, police inspector of Moti Daman police station said.

Investigations revealed that the robbers, armed with swords and other sharp weapons, opened the door of the room using a large magnet in the wee hours.

"The woman was alone at her residence at the time of incident as her husband was on night-shift duty. We suspect that robbers opened the door latch from outside using a large magnet, normally used in audio speakers. The victim alleged that she was raped by all the six armed robbers by threatening to kill her," said Jivani.

"We learnt that the robbers first locked doors of all other rooms in the chawl before committing the crime, so that neighbourers cannot come to her rescue," he added.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the six accused and efforts are on to nab them, the officer said.
