A Kerala-based trust set up to preserve the rich heritage and ancient art forms today announced re-launch of the acclaimed 'Ashtapadiyattam', a dance drama based on saint-poet Jayadeva's 'Geeta Govindam.'
Sri Guruvayurappan Dharmakala Samuchayam Trust (SGDKS) spearheaded by 'Metro Man' E Sreedharan and Chennas Dinesan Namboothiripad will be conducting the first 'Ashtapadiyattam' event on May 21 at Poonthanam Auditorium in Guruvayur.
The event will be officially launched by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, organisers said at a press conference here.
Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, Kerala Governor P Sathasivam and state Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran among others will grace the event.
SGDKS founder-turstee Sreedharan said the re-launch of 'Ashtapadiyattam', a dance drama based on saint-poet Jayadeva's 'Geeta Govindam' underscores our commitment to age- old art forms and rich heritage.
"We believe that such an initiative will help us empower future generations to master Ashtapathi Attam in its purest and truest sense and stay fully aware and informed about our inimitable art and culture," Sreedharan said.
