Dance festival lauds talent of disabled children

Differently abled children are set to perform at a classical dance festival here.

The Delhi-based society works for the upliftment of arts is organising the five day festival Indradhanish Dilli in collaboration with Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Disabilities at Karnataka Sangha, Vishwa Yuva Kendra, Akshara Theatre and Delhi Tamil Sangam from November 12 to 16.

"This festival of Arts is a venture by Sunaina since 2008, to promote children and youth artists who have taken up various artforms. This it is going to be different as talents of differently abled children will be showcased," says Kanak Sudhaker, founder of Sunaina.
 

About 850 children from 18 states between the age group of five years to 15 years are set to participate at the event.

"Children with various physical and mental disabilities from various institutions across the country are also included in the list of participants," says Sudhaker.

Organsiers say a series of activities have been planed for children and the youth to encourage them to take up classical art forms and provides them a platform to showcase their talents.

"Dance forms like Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Folk, Bollywood and contemporary are set to be performed at various venues the event is being hosted along with music arts and other talents will all be showcased.

"Children with various disabilities will be performing at the Bal Kala Utsav which is also a competition where other children will also be taking part," says Sudhaker.

Seminars on traditional dance forms and arts by renowned exponents in the classical field are also scheduled.

"Various Indian artforms especially dance brings about a balanced rhythmic harmony in the body movements which help disabled children to co-ordinate their movements properly and helps to boost their confidence," says Sudhaker.

Youth exponents of various performing arts from all over India like Kuchipudi by Avijit Das, Kathak by Samantaa group, Odissi by Debabruta Barua, Manipuri by Sudip Kumar and troupe and Mohiniattam by Shruti K P, Bharatanataym duet by Renjith and Vijna, contemporary dance by Pritpal Singh and Kathak by Tanmoyee and in the line up.

"We are honouring great exponents of our artforms in the festival too like Guru Samman and will also be felicitating Guru Madhavi Mudgal, Guru Jaylakshmi Eashwar and Guru Evoor Rajendran Pillai," says Sudhaker.
