The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland Legislature Party (DANLP) today appealed to the agitating groups in the state to lift the indefinite bandh against the functioning of the government.

The appeal comes barely hours before the expiry of the three-day deadline set by Nagaland Tribe Action Committee Kohima and Joint Coordination Committee for Chief Minister T R Zeliang to resign.

The appeal was made by the DAN Legislature Party during an emergency meeting this evening at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, stated a release issued by Chief Minister Office (CMO).

The meeting attended by 53 legislators discussed the present situation and came to the conclusion that the issue of election to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) is over with the entire process having been declared null and void, and that the stage is now set for dialogue and negotiations on the future course of action in this regard.

Yesterday, Nagaland Governor P B Acharya had declared the entire process of elections to ULBs as null and void.

Therefore, the DANLP, while appealing for lifting of the indefinite bandh against the functioning of the government, also urged the agitating groups to take up the offer for dialogue being extended by the state government in the true spirit of democratic practices to bring about amicable resolution to the ULB issue in the state.

Zeliang, Speaker Chotisuh Sazo, chairman of DAN and NPF President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, Vice Chairman of DAN and President of BJP Nagaland Visasolie Lhoungu and MP (Rajya Sabha) KG Kenye attended the meeting as special invitees, CMO sources said.
