Darjeeling's water problem to be solved soon says Gurung

To solve the perennial water problem of the famous tourist town of Darjeeling, the Darjeeling Municipality will sign a MoA with UIDSSMT and SUDA to revamp the drinking water distribution of the town.

Darjeeling Municipality will sign a Memorandum of Agreement with Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) and State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) to revamp the drinking water distribution in Darjeeling Town for Rs 169.2 crore, said Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) Chief Executive Bimal Gurung said in a facebook post today.

According to this project, the municipality would construct 30 water tanks to cover all 32 municipality wards of Darjeeling and would be completed in 30 months.
 

The project also entails setting up of 14 pumping stations, relaying the entire water pipe line network and introducing water meters both for commercial and domestic purposes.

With the completion of this project, the Darjeeling Municipality will get rid Darjeeling of its perennial water scarcity problem.

Gurung said the Balasun drinking water project is nearing completion and will also be completed in another six months.
