Das finds berth in Indian Winter Olympics squad

The World Winter Games will be held at Pyong Chang, South Korea from February 29 to 5, said Satbir Singh Sahota, Assistant Area Director, Special Olympic Bharat (Jharkhand) said.

Sahota said Das was the only athlete picked from Jharkhand, for Floor Hockey event.

He will be travelling to New Delhi on January 22 to join the Indian contingent for its journey to South Korea.

Das undertook a final coaching session today at JRD Tata Sports complex under the guidance of Avtar Singh, a well-known trainer for special Olympics.

He said Das became the sixth athlete from the state to take part in the World Winder games ever since it was introduced in 1991.

 

While Sanjeev Sharma represented the country at the Alaska (USA) World Winter games in 2001, Rajiv Singh and Vijay Mishra were part of the games held at Japan in 2005.

Besides, Achal Gaurav and Alpana Kumari from Jharkhand represented the country in the 2009 games held in USA, Sahota added.
