West Bengal Tribal Development Minister James Kujur today said data on tribals is being collected on block and panchayat levels to ensure that they get their ST certificates.

"This is being done as the tribals do not know how to collect ST certificates and therefore cannot avail of the government facilities for them," Kujur said at a function here today.

He said the state government had sanctioned Rs 600 crore for tribal development this financial year and 75 per cent of the money had already been spent on scholarships for tribal children, their clothes, cycles. Besides many ICDS centres have been set up for them, specially in north Bengal.

He said the government is aware of child and woman trafficking in north Bengal and is mulling action to control it.
