Dattatreya takes charge of Labour ministry

Bandaru Dattatreya, the lone BJP Lok Sabha MP from Telangana, today took over as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour & Employment.

Briefing reporters on the occasion, he said his Ministry would take forward several training and skill development programmes and also labour welfare schemes.

Dattatreya later held meetings with officials of the Ministry and discussed plans to make the functioning of the ministry more efficient.

A prominent leader of the saffron party in undivided Andhra Pradesh, Dattatreya rose through the ranks from being a full-time RSS pracharak to become the lone representative of the new state Telangana in the Union Cabinet.
 

A four-time MP from Secunderabad, Dattatreya earlier served as the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Poverty Alleviation and Railways in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cabinet during 1998-99 and 2000-04.

Dattatreya held Independent charge of the Urban Development Ministry from 2003 to 2004 and was member of Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996, 1998-99 and 1999-2004.
