Day 5: Behind the scenes at the Cannes Film Festival

Tropical-force rain washed out the jollity at Cannes, muting, shortening or cancelling the parties on one of the festival's biggest nights.

Among the casualties was a flash-mob to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. Two hundred performers clad in saris, kurtas and other traditional dress were to have performed on the Croisette seafront.

But the sun returned today, boosting morale.

While the women have to be beautiful and mostly start out in modelling, the public demands that their male action heroes really look the part.
 

"They have to be all pumped up," a movie insider tells AFP. "Even character actors have to spend endless hours in the gym.
