A day after an Inspector, posted as Station House Officer (SHO) levelled serious accusations of bribe against his senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), both were shifted from their present place of postings today along with other transfers.
At least 163 police officials of Chandigarh police, including the level of Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub- Inspectors, were transferred today, an official release said here.
A controversy broke out yesterday after a SHO alleged that a DSP had been making him spend money for her, asking him for bribe and also asked him not to arrest an alleged rape accused.
Offering to resign from "corrupt police", Industrial Area SHO Yashpal Vinayak had made the allegation against DSP (East) Anjitha Chepyala on a police chat group on messaging application WhatsApp.
The SHO had sent out this message on WhatsApp last evening that has officers from the SSP to SHO ranks.
Addressing the Chandigarh IGP R R Upadhyaya, who is not part of the chat group, the SHO had said that the DSP had been taking favours from him again and again.
He alleged that he had already spent around Rs 5.85 lakh for the DSP, that included an air ticket, renovation of her house and an air-conditioner.
However, the DSP had trashed the allegations, in a message and said she was ready for any kind of inquiry.
SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill, who is part of the group, sent a message that this was no way to complain as the group is a forum to pass on intelligence reports.
The SSP took statements from both the SHO and the DSP on direction from the IGP.
Meanwhile, the DSP claimed that the SHO was levelling the allegations as she had pointed out some irregularities done by him.
As per the posting orders issued today, Chepyala, who is a pass out of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Services (DANIPS) cadre, had been transferred as DSP Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and Yashpla goes to Recruitment Training Centre (RTC), an official release said.
The divide between Chandigarh police officers and those posted here from other cadres is not new as 2012 was marred with controversies due to alleged factionalism.
Then SSP Naunihal Singh, from Punjab cadre, had to face stiff resistance from UT cadre officers.
IPS officer SP Desraj, who was the SP (city), had alleged that Inspector Amanjot had refused to take orders from him. In October 2012, Desraj was arrested after allegations of bribery levelled by SHO Anokh Singh.
