Dayanidhi, Karti and Narayanasamy enter poll fray

Former ministers Dayanidhi Maran and S Jagathrakshakan of DMK and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti were among the prominent candidates who submitted nominations in Tamil Nadu, were 39 Lok Sabha seats go for voting on April 24.

Others who jumped into the poll fray on the last day of filing nominations, which saw 560 persons filing papers including Former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK) from Dharmapuri constituency, took the total number of nominations to 1,318.

Among the 1,318 candidates, 1,198 are male, 118 are female and two are others (transgender Bharathi Kannamma filed two nominations from Madurai).

Congress candidate V Narayanasamy, the Minister of State in PMO, bidding for his second successive term, submitted nomination papers for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Puducherry.
 

With the filing of nominations by 23 candidates today, the total number of nominations rose to 41 in Puducherry.

For Alandur assembly seat which is going to bypoll along with Lok Sabha polls, 19 candidates have submitted nominations, electoral authorities said here.

The scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on April 7 and the last date for the withdrawal from contest is April 9.
