Daylight robbery at jewellery shop, two held

In an audacious heist, four robbers raided a jewellery shop in Padra town in the district today and looted gold and cash estimated at Rs 8.80 lakh before two of them were caught, police said.

The incident occurred when the robbers with their faces covered barged into the shop, located in a prominent locality, owned by one Hitesh Patel, a police officer attached to Padra police station told PTI over phone.

While one of the gang members fired in air to scare away people gathered outside the shop, his accomplices snatched a bag containing 330 grams of gold and Rs 50,000 in cash and also took away jewellery and other items, the officer said on condition of not quoting him as he is not authorised to speak to media.
 

While two robbers fled on the bike with the booty, the members of public caught hold of two others and thrashed them before handing them over to police.

The two robbers who are put under arrest are identified as Ritesh Yadav and Sonu Yadav--both from Uttar Pradesh, he said.

According to the officer, two others who fled on bike are identified as Vivek Rathod and Aman alias Goldi Patel and a hunt is on to trace them.
