Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for LPG will commence in five districts of Punjab from September 1, an official release said today.

Aadhaar cards have been issued to 84 per cent of population in Fatehgarh Sahib, 79 per cent in Barnala, 77 per cent in Jalandhar, 76 per cent in Ludhiana and 74 per cent in Faridkot, it stated.

A subsidy to the tune of Rs 1.98 crore has been disbursed to 49,697 LPG consumers in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahar) so far.

The Centre launched the DBT for LPG (DBTL) scheme aiming to prevent black-marketing and provide subsidy to consumers in their bank accounts.

All Aadhaar linked domestic LPG consumers get an advance of Rs 435 in their bank account as soon as they book the first subsidised cylinder before delivery.

As soon as, the first subsidised cylinder is delivered to consumers, the next subsidy will again get credited in their bank accounts, which can then be available for the purchase of the next subsidised cylinder at market rate.
