S Sundareshan, a retired IAS officer of Kerala cadre, has quit as Mission Director of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
Official sources confirmed that he has put in his papers but did not disclose the reasons.
The much touted DBT programme was rolled-out by the previous UPA government on January 1, 2013, for transferring subsidies of various welfare scheme through the Aadhaar-linked platform.
The UPA government had also initiated transfer of LPG subsidy through DBT from June 1, 2013. Under DBTL, consumers are paid cash subsidy to help them buy LPG cylinders at market price.
The scheme was launched in 291 districts of the country in six phases but it was put on hold in March this year. This followed complaints of not all consumer having unique identification number (Aadhaar) or a bank account to get the subsidy.
Sundareshan, a 1976 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, was appointed Mission Director, Direct Benefits Transfer Scheme, in June 2013.
Prior to that he had served as Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Heavy Industries.
