Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) system has been introduced so that the benefits reach the poor people.
A whopping Rs 225 crore was saved in one year from going to middle men following the DBT system, Das said.
He said this amount saved would be spent on the welfare of the poor people, an official release said.
The chief minister said the public distribution system would be made free from middle men, adding money for grains meant for the poor would be deposited in their accounts.
Speaking at a function in Nagri block near here, Das said earlier there were complaints that dealers would not give grains in full to the poor.
Now Rs 1106 will be deposited in their accounts at the rate of Rs 31.60 per kg for 35 kg grains to the beneficiaries, he said.
The beneficiaries could purchase from the fair shop owners with this money and get full ration, the chief minister said.
A pilot project started from Nagari and amount is being deposited for the beneficiaries, he said.
Das said 11.64 lakh duplicate and illegal ration cards were scrapped, which enabled a saving of 72,000 tonne of grains.
He appealed to the PDS shop owners to correct their work culture and give full ration to the poor.
The chief minister said PDS shop owners could sell any other items like other kirana shops.
