Press Trust of India Mangalore
Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim today urged the people to use Ganesha idols made of eco-friendly materials while celebrating the Ganesha festival.

He suggested that the idols should be made of clay and not painted by artificial colours. The decorative flowers and other materials on the idols should be removed and dumped in the bins provided for the purpose. Idol made of Plaster of Paris should be avoided, he said.

Pointing out the guidelines issued by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, he said in a statement that the decorative materials should not be thrown openly on the roads and drains. The guidelines also said that the 'pandals' for keeping the idols at mass Ganesha festivals should be erected using environment-friendly materials.
