Fox is planning to adapt DC Comics' Lucifer for a TV pilot.

The network has handed the drama, from 'Californication' creator Tom Kapinos, a put pilot commitment for a one-hour episode, reported Ace Showbiz.

Lucifer is based on the Vertigo comic of the same name, a spin-off of Neil Gaiman's classic Sandman series written by Mike Carey.

Following on from the story of the Devil's retirement from Hell to run a piano bar in Los Angeles, Lucifer saw the fallen angel's attempt to carve out his own creation and confront his issues with his absentee father - God.

Comic book series are the current buzz of television, with reports last week that DC's Teen Titans is in development at TNT and a Supergirl reboot coming from Greg Berlanti.

DC's other upcoming TV projects include 'Gotham', 'Arrow' spin-off 'The Flash', 'Constantine' and 'iZombie'.
