Tarun Yadav, who worked as a tele-caller, allegedly hanged himself at his house here on the evening of December 23. Earlier in the day, he had been taken to Lallaguda police station and questioned for allegedly taking away cell phone and certain other things belonging to a friend.
Yadav's family members alleged that he committed suicide because the police asked for a bribe.
According to the Lallaguda police, a youth called J Nani had lodged a complaint a day before that his friends Tarun Yadav, Sandeep and Mukhesh had taken his tablet, mobile phone, wallet, ATM card and Rs 800 in cash, and warned him not to disclose this to anybody, threatening to kill him otherwise.
Sandeep and Tarun were taken to the police station on the afternoon of December 23. The police also summoned their parents, but only Sandeep's father Samuel went to the police station.
Since all the four were friends, police registered a case for a petty offence and released the two on bail after counselling.
According to the police, Tarun quarrelled with his mother and elder step-brother after reaching home and hanged himself from a ceiling fan. But the family members alleged that police's harassment led to his suicide.
Meanwhile, Mukesh, his friend, too allegedly attempted suicide today by drinking some poisonous liquid, and was admitted to a government hospital where he was being treated, the police said.
