DCW notice over alleged delay in construction of creches

Taking suo motu cognisance of a media report regarding alleged delay in construction of creches in the slums of north-east and south districts, DCW has issued a notice to the Director of Women and Child Development Department of Delhi government.

The Commission, in its notice, has sought to know the reasons for delay in the pilot project and the steps the department is planning to take to ensure its rapid implementation.

"DCW takes suo motu cognisance of a media article published on April 26 where it has been stated that there is a delay in the construction of 30 creches on a pilot basis under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in the slums of north-east and south districts.
 

"The Commission views this delay seriously as creches can play an important role in ensuring safety of children in Delhi. In this regard, you are directed to provide following information - reasons for the delay in the pilot project, proposed timeline for implementation as well as steps taken thus far and steps that will be taken by the Department of WCD to ensure rapid implementation of the project," the notice issued by DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal read.

The Commission has asked the department to reply within seven days from the receipt of the letter.
