Viewers of Doordarshan's art and culture channel DD Bharati will soon get to hear monsoon ragas rendered by two of the country's finest musicians.

The national channel has planned a music festival 'Barkha Ritu' where two eminent Hindustani musicians - Pandit Chhannulal Mishra and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma will enchant music lovers with monsoon ragas, a statement by the channel released here said.

Sharma on the santoor is being aired on 24th August while Mishra on vocals will be telecast on August 30th, it said.

The channel has also planned special programmes on the occasion of the birth centenary of the doyen of Indian theatre - Sombhu Mitra.

On the 22nd August, the play 'Dak Ghar' that was produced by Bohurupee and directed by Tripti Mitra, the legendary actress and wife of Sombhu Mitra will be telecast.

"The play features Sombhu Mitra, Kumar Roy and Chaiti Ghosal among others. This most probably is the only surviving video recording of a play of the 70s where one can see Sombhu Mitra performing and hence of rare archival value. The play which is in Bengali has been subtitled in Hindi," it said.

On the 23rd August 'Glimpses of a genius: Sombhu Mitra', directed by Raja Sen will be shown.

"This is probably the last film made on Sombhu Mitra. In the film, he is being interviewed by theatre director Kirti Jain," the statement said.

Another programme that will entice viewers is a series of films on eight of India's most spectacular sites.
