In a first, national broadcaster Doordarshan will telecast the live proceedings of Republic Day celebrations from Rajpath here tomorrow in High Definition, which is superior quality transmission.

Also for the first time, the hearing impaired people will be able to follow the entire live coverage with the help of sign language commentary on three channels DD News, DD Bharati and DD Urdu.

The High Definition content will also be streamed live on You Tube.

The Republic Day coverage has been so far done by Doordarshan only in Standard Definition, officials said.

This year, the picture quality of the coverage will be substantially superior as the resolution of High Definition is six times that of Standard definition, officials said.

Over 100 Doordarshan personnel from technical, camera, programme, commentary, scenic and administrative fields have been working in tandem for installation, testing, commissioning, rehearsals to ensure uninterrupted live telecast of the elaborate coverage, the officials said.

Doordarshan will have 18 latest High Definition cameras in strategic positions at India Gate and Rajghat, to cover the entire spectacle of the parade where President Pranab Mukherjee will take the salute.

Officials said that while DD-HD is available on Doordarshan's DTH platform 'Free Dish', viewers can approach their cable or DTH operators ask for HD Signals.

They will be able to access the signals with HD Capable Set Top Boxes and HD TV Sets if the service is provided by their multi System Operator, officials said.
