Raising the issue, Matia Mahal MLA Shohaib Iqbal slammed the Delhi Development Authority for the "demolition drive" and demanded action against the officials responsible for it.

MLAs including RJD's Asif Mohammad Khan also joined Iqbal and demanded the Delhi government's intervention on the issue.

Speaker Yoganand Shastri, who represents Mehrauli constituency, criticising the DDA said it been told to rebuild the wall of the mosque near Andheria Mor area.

"I and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit have instructed the agency to rebuild the damaged wall of the mosque. They have started rebuilding it," Shastri said, while terming the DDA action as "wrong".

Shastri also slammed the DDA for demolishing the slum cluster and said some of the residents have ownership right of the land on which they had built houses.

"The DDA has done wrong. The Chief Minister had asked the DDA not to carry out the demolition drive. But it was carried out as lower level officials of the DDA misled the vice- chairman of the agency on the issue," Shastri said.

A DDA official, however, denied damaging wall of the mosque.
