DDA today said it has decided to convert surface parking at all its sports complexes into underground ones, seeking to create space for further augmenting such facilities.

In a statement, Delhi Development Authority said it will invite suggestions from public on usage of the vacant spaces and areas made available after development of underground parking.

As per provisions of Master Plan 2001, DDA developed sports complexes in all the zones of Delhi. The first such complex was opened at Siri Fort in 1989 and thereafter, 14 other sporting facilities have been developed.

DDA also has three mini-sports complexes at Munirka in south Delhi, Kanti Nagar in east and Pratap Nagar in western part of the city.

A total of nearly 50,000 members excluding casual members, guests, among others, utilise the sports facilities on a daily basis, it said.

As membership of some of these complexes is full and sportspersons or residents have been requesting it for membership, the DDA said the move would help address this issue.

These sports complexes have 18 fitness centres altogether, including one exclusively for women, it added.
