De-addiction meet gets underway in Gondia

The 4th state-level de-addiction meet aiming to take the challenge posed by substance addiction head on got underway here today.

Inaugurating the two-day conference, Mukta Puntambekar of Pune-based 'Muktangan' de-addiction centre said the addicts are a great cause of concern for entire society and addiction has imposed serious challenge to peace.

The function was attended by politicians and personalities from entertainment industry like Avdhoot Gupte, actress Nisha Parulekar and government officials.

Puntambekar, daughter of noted de-addiction activist Anil Avchat, said the government should look at the larger picture on addiction and its ill-effects rather than thinking only on generating revenue from the sale of liquor and other addictive substances.
 

State minister Rajkumar Badole said Maharashtra was the only state to announce de-addiction resolution which has potential to execute social reforms in effective manner.
