Dead rat found in mid-day meal, school principal suspended

A dead rat was found in the mid-day meal being served to the children of a primary school in Sultanpur district following which the UP government ordered a probe and suspended principal and a class IV employee of the school.

The meal was being served to 107 students of the local primary school yesterday when the "rat" was spotted by a teacher.

Uttar Pradesh's Basic Education Minister, Yogesh Pratap Singh, said in a statement today that after the report an inquiry, headed by District Magistrate, was ordered by the government.

"On the basis of the inquiry report, school principal Deepti and a class four employee have been suspended," the minister said adding that the NGO providing the mid-day meal has been relieved of work and put on the black list.
